I passed my RD exam last Thursday!!!! So, my test was scheduled for 3:30. It was an hour away and I left at 12:15 just to give myself time (if I got a flat tire I needed to have enough time for my husband to drive up to come get me and get me to the exam center!). So, nothing happened and I got the exam at 1:30. I was so so so so nervous, and luckily I talked to my sister on the phone during the drive so it took my mind off it. Anyway, I get there early and asked if I needed to come back 30 minutes prior to the test. The lady told me “Well, we have a seat open if you want to go ahead and take it.”. I’m thinking WHOA not mentally ready yet. So I told her I’d head out to my car real quick and be right back. I went to my car to just breathe for a second. I came back and started the test. The worst is when you don’t know the answer to number one. But then it was ok. But there were plenty of times during the test where I just wasn’t quite sure. So many answers you could narrow down to two, but then it was kind of a toss up. There would be two good answers, so it was just deciding which one was “best” based on their standards. So, my test cut off at 125 (it will go to 145 if you haven’t quite answered enough to pass but you still have a chance). I started freaking out around 120, wondering if it would cut off. It did. So then I was like, well, I either failed so bad that 20 more questions wouldn’t do me any good, or I passed. So I go out and the lady prints off my scores. I didn’t even look until I left the door. Walked outside and look and saw “Congratulations!”. I couldn’t believe it. I graduated college in 2011 and this moment was finally here. I had passed. I sat in my car before calling anyone and took a second to myself. I started crying then being ok. It didn’t seem real. Then I called my husband and family and the rest is history.

I celebrated by going back home on Friday with my husband and seeing my family and having a great workout (then chopping off 9 inches of my hair to start fresh!). Then I went to Orlando with my husband on Saturday for a night to get away and celebrate. Then I started work on Monday! It has been a crazy few days!

^started on Monday at my new job, so exciting!

I was lucky enough to get both of my study materials from friends who had already taken the exam so I didn’t have to purchase anything so that’s why I had two study guides. I recommend getting Jean Inman and doing the practice tests. I found that very helpful. I also got Breedings and Associates and I liked their tests and well because it was set up differently and there were explanations with the answers. It’s all about how you learn best. For me, I need everything. I needed to hear it and write/type stuff out. I needed to rewrite and do questions. And then retype the questions I got wrong with the correct answer. Then re read everything. It’s rough. But it is worth it to not have to wait 6 more weeks if you fail and pay $200 more. Feel free to ask any questions 🙂
